Here are a few quick tips to get you stand-
• Rather
than standing up immediately -
• Once you’ve got this mastered, lay the paddle across
the deck and ease yourself up
• Stand facing forward with your feet shoulder width
apart and your legs slightly bent.
• Relax. Jiggle around a little to feel the movement
of the board in the water and to test your balance.
• Hold the paddle in front of
you at arm’s length and parallel to your body;
• Fully immerse the blade and pull the paddle towards you while keeping your arms
straight and rotating your body with the paddle.
• Lift the blade from the water
and bring the paddle back to where it started out front (keeping the blade as close
to the waterline as possible).
• Keep your head upright and looking forward. Try
not to look not down.
• Check your direction and, if necessary, change sides to steer.
